When Exactly Do You Renew Your Vehicle’s Registration?
A vehicle’s initial registration is valid for three years. When it does expire, you will not be able to drive to the Land Transportation Office and get it renewed. As there is a systematic way to determine when to tag renewal is done, and it is all in your car’s license plate.
The last digit of your vehicle’s license plate will inform you of the exact month that you need to register your car. For example, 1st stands for January, 2 for February, and so on and so forth. As for 0, October is the last month of registration. So make sure that you take note, though, so you can register your vehicle at least one month in advance.
Now, for the exact week, you need to register your vehicle, try following this number schedule using the 2nd to the last digit of your vehicle’s plate number. Numbers 1, 2, and 3 must be registered within all the working days ranging from the 1st to the 7th of the month; 4th, 5th, and 6th on the 8th to the 14th; and 7th and 8th on the 15th to the 21st. Then from the 9th and 0 on the 22nd to the last working day of the month.
Let’s use this example license plate LTO 1234 and go with the schedule provided. The last digit will obviously be 4, meaning it needs to be registered in the month of April. Next, the 2nd to the last number will be 3, which means that you need to consider the working days starting from April 1st – 7th. Looking at the calendar, if you need to register the car in 2017, it will start from April 3rd to 7th.
Everybody must adhere to this schedule, as failure to do so does mean harsh penalties. After reading this article, go to your car, use the aforementioned number scheme, and make sure to mark the dates that you are allowed to register.
